Blog

In today’s world we have access to all kinds of information at any time.  The trouble is, it can be too much and it can be too distracting.

How many people do you see wandering around with phones and other devices? Research by Ofcom found that 59% of people who had devices felt they were hooked on them. A third of respondents said they were hooked on them.  If you think 71% of adults in the UK are now thought to own a smart phone, this is a lot of people who are having problems with their phones.

We are often interrupted and pressured by outside elements.  We become reactive.  This behaviour can become habitual.  So what is the solution?  In a word, control.

Think about how you spend your time on your phone or other internet devices. Is it valuable time? Could you make better use of your time?  In a recent blog on breaking habits, we looked at whether people should not try to start new habits, but change their existing habits in a more positive way. Are there other things you could do on your phone? Make notes and ideas for a meeting, learn a new language, study a course while you are waiting for the bus or eating your lunch.  Make good use of the time spent on your phone to find out more about the world around you.
