Is the dream of the digital nomad over? Recent research, from the University of St Andrews, suggests that 52% of workers in the UK never work from home and that the people who do work from home tend to be older and more highly skilled. During and after the pandemic, we saw a dramatic increase in people working from home, but over the last five years, people have been increasingly returning to their places of work.
This is an interesting development, when people are increasingly requesting flexible working. Research by Zoom found that 89% of all respondents wanted to work flexibly, hybrid or remotely. They found that 57% of Australians and 59% of British respondents would prefer flexible or hybrid work.
This seems to suggest a difference in what employers want and what employees want. It will be interesting to see how this difference will develop/be resolved in the near future? Any thoughts?
